My 10yr old son wanted to make a name plaque for a girl that he likes. He described what he wanted it to look like but wanted to do the majority of the work. We were going to cut the letters out with the scroll saw but I figured no amount of supervision could stop an accident. So, off to the craft store we went. He picked up the letters, the base, some little decorations and paint. My wife helped him with the paint. Its the girls favorite color, hot pink. (just a little late for valentines day)

that came out great. keep him thinking, give him a birdhouse or something to design , then assemble and paint after you cut it up. maybe he'll become a woodworker also
