A good friend gave me this homemade bandsaw blade welder a while ago. I figured I'd give it a try even though it scares the heck out of me. I dont know who actually built it but they did a fantastic job! It is basically an electrical box with a large transformer, a micro breaker of some sort and all the rest is scratch built. You lock the blade into the right side holder then lock the left side in which makes the ends touch under spring pressure. Turn the unit on and then press the top "ignition" button. The blade melts and the spring pressure pushes them together. The breaker trips and thats that. All you do after you remove it is to heat it until it turns pink, let it cool off and then file it flat. It is just as strong as the non welded part.

It does come in handy if you buy boxes of bandsaw blades by the roll. Even handier if you break alot of blades. Thankfully I dont break blades, but I do have a blade pile that could become uselful.

It looks like some of the parts may have been scavenged from a factory made BS welder. either way, if it works good then it doesnt matter.

I'm not sure,,I really have to investigate it further, its kind of dirty, but, it makes me nervous to touch any part of the box while the button is being pressed. Maybe a hard plastic....I'll get back to you on this (sorry I took so long in the first place)

I just saw the video. That person did a fantastic job making that welder. I think the video is really cool ,specially with the text clouds you added. A friend of mine came across a heavy duty transformer from a boiler. He thinks he may be able to make a welder also. I'll post when he finally gets it done.
