Well I was going to cut out some Santa blanks and then the blade broke on the bandsaw so I decided to do this roughout I bought at the Omaha show. I like sea captains and have always admired this one. This one comes with a neat pier section as a base. I cut the figure off of it before carving and caved them seperate. I didn't like the way the rope looked on the first one so I carved another blank out of a 4 x 4 block. It was a lot of work with a knife making the base from scratch, but I like the way it turned out. Anyway, it's painted with acrylics and finished with BLO and satin lacquer.

I really have found a great appreciation for wood carving since I've been checking this section out. A true group of great carvers! Very nice!!
